Sikkim
is an Indian federal state that stretches
in an area of 7298sq. km and has a population
of around 400,000; though isolated, it is not
unexplored.
Topography
It is a magnificent mountainous region which
is fringed to the north, east and west by
three watershed ridges; the eastern and northern
border with Tibet while the western border
with Nepal. Two rivulets of Teesta, namely
Rangit and Rangpo form the southern border
with West Bengal.
Religion
You can find a decent mix of both
Hindus and Buddhist Sikkim. Infact, its original
inhabitants are Lepchas but there are noticeable
majority of Bhutias who are of the Tibetan
origin. The landscape is refreshing, simultaneously,
the gleaming Kanchanjunga (8586m), the third
highest mountain of the world adds to its
natural beauty.
Capital
City
Gangtok is its capital city of Sikkim
and it is popular for its spectacular landscape
and monasteries. It is a place where the essence
of Buddhism is still strong and phenomenal.
Moreover, it is gifted with rich dense forest
and exotic wildlife where one can find more
than 500 species of birds and hundreds of
varieties of orchids.
